Weight Management Program
Nutrition and Components of Healthy Diet: Educating patients
on basic information about nutritional needs by using the healthy plate, nutrition guidelines and the plant-based Mediterranean model.
Support: Create a supportive and safe environment for patients to address food issues while gaining knowledge about healthier eating habits with the help of their fellow participants and health coaches.
Concepts of Mindful Eating: By addressing issues like emotional eating, food triggers and cravings we hope to introduce behavioral modification solutions.
Exercise: Patients will be educated on ways to stay more active and less sedentary. Every meeting will include time set aside for an exercise activity.
WMP is 6-month program that will meet twice a month from
July to December.
We plan on serving 15 patients with the help of 15
undergraduate health coach volunteers that will be trained as
health coaches. Patients will be partnered up with a health coach for 6 months and get 1:1 support in class and outside of class.
The meetings will take place on Mondays from 5:00 pm- 7:00 pm
