High School Scholar Program

Student mentors are responsible for assisting the high school scholars with college and scholarship applications, personal statements, SAT prep, and personal and academic development, depending on the specific needs of the scholar. The main objective of student mentors are to help the high school students to advance to, and succeed at, a college after graduation.

Qualifications

  • Student mentors must be currently attending college or graduated from college

  • Must pass a volunteer clearance with the Health Scholars Program and the GREEN Project.

  • Must be cleared as a Madison Elementary School volunteer.

Duties & Responsibilities

  • Build a professional relationship with mentees and offer advice and personal anecdotes on how to succeed in high school and college.

  • Present at least one lecture on professional or academic development.

  • Assist high school scholars with SAT prep.

  • Guide scholars on writing their personal statements.

  • Assessing A-G requirements with high school scholars and directing them with informal academic planning.

  • Participate in workshop activities and motivate students to stay involved.

  • Offering assistance on applications for college admission, scholarships, internships, and research.
